Spünes Privacy

Last updated 6 September 2026.

What we collect

Your email address, so you can sign in. Spünes has no passwords. We email you a six-digit code instead.

The handle you choose, the names you give your spoons, and the photographs you take of them.

When you use a spoon at a mealtime, how far it has travelled since the last one. Your location is read at that moment to measure the distance and is kept on your phone only and is never sent to us. What is sent is the distance.

Where photographs go

A photograph you take is stored on Amazon S3, and a smaller copy is sent to Anthropic's Claude to check that it shows a single ordinary spoon and nothing unfit to show. Spoon names and handles are checked the same way.

Photographs keep their background, so whatever is behind your spoon is part of what is stored and checked. Photograph a plain surface.

A photograph is private to your account unless you put that spoon in your display case. Display-case spoons can appear in other people's Spoon of the Day deck, without your name attached; only a spoon that actually wins is shown alongside your handle.

What we never do

We do not sell your data, show you advertising, or share your email address with anyone. SpoonBucks are not money, cannot be bought, and cannot be cashed out.

Reporting and removal

Every photograph is checked before anyone else can see it, and you can report anything you think is wrong, from Settings or with the flag on any card in Spoon of the Day.

To delete your account, use Delete Account in Settings. Your email address, your handle and every spoon you photographed yourself are removed, and anywhere your name appeared it becomes "[deleted account]". A spoon you traded away belongs to somebody else and stays with them; a spoon traded to you was their photograph first, so it is set loose rather than deleted. You can also write to support@spunes.com.
